Traveling, immersed in a strange land, I see with new eyes. Stripped of familiar routines, I notice the magic of each camera-ready moment. I work cinematically, which requires being a photographer/artist/writer, where all elements working together can create a deeper impression.
For me, a camera contains a book of lessons, each image a story to share. This process begins with photography, which is layered with poetry, painting and found objects to create the final artwork. In homage to the daguerreotype, I am currently printing the images on brushed steel as well as on fine art watercolor papers.
My current work is influenced by a lifelong career as an international artist. As a textile designer for ten years, I worked half of each year in Asia and India. Following that, seven years as a fashion designer sent me overseas 40 weeks out of 52. For the last 9 years, I traveled the globe writing and filming documentaries for an international client base including Nike, Pepsi, Levi Strauss, Sony and Disney.
After logging over 3 million miles around the planet, reflecting the epiphanies of the voyage, I‘ve come to the personal conclusion that the journey is the destination and my artwork is the map.
