Ron Dier originally began his career designing rugs from 1970 - 1981. Thus, his realization for design and color. From 1981, Ron moved onto ceramics and continues to develop new designs. He is internationally known in his field as a Master. It’s hardly surprising that his fascination with glass and ability to design his own unique ceramic molds have resulted in a healthy cross-section and revealed a shared continuum in his fused glass. Ron Dier’s national artistic identity can best be described as drastically diverse, dramatically versatile, and defiantly independent. His current fused glass collection on display at Studio Arts Gallery, exhibits his obsession with surface detail and textural articulation. His dramatic attention to surface details, to optic, haptic, and tactile physical qualities, and of course to the raw emotion of pure color, or its utter absence, utilized as, both a design, and aesthetic tool. Despite the obvious importance of color throughout the exhibition, it is the seemingly colorless, monochrome, or subtle-toned works that prove to be most alluring.
