I first started working with glass in the Fall of 2000. After graduating from Whittier College in 1998 with a BA in English literature and a minor in Religious studies, I floundered through life for two years not knowing what to do with myself. It was then that a dear family friend, Karen Morris, first encouraged me to try glass blowing with her at Cal State Fullerton. I didn't immediately fall in love with the material, or the process, but I took four semesters of classes there. It wasn't until I took a two year hiatus from glass that I realized how much I truly did love to work with glass. It occurred to me that everyday for two years I thought about glass and wanted very badly to restart my learning process. It is at this point, the Fall of 2004, that I wandered into the glass studio of John Barber and became an apprentice under him. I am inspired and motivated by family, friends, nature, knowledge, dogs, bodies of water, athletes, Gothic Art, surrealism, cathedral windows, and the Old Masters. Someday, I hope to gain the skills to be able to have my work reflect my life and what is important to me. I am drawn to glass for the physicality it takes to make a piece as well as the fact that it possess endless possibilities and challenges.
